Renewable Energy Systems: Keadby Windfarm

Wynns were appointed by Renewable Energy Systems during the planning phase for a new wind farm at Keadby in North Lincolnshire. The geography of the proposed site meant that the feasibility of gaining access with large wind turbine equipment would drive the final layout of wind farm. There was also a need to minimise the impact of abnormal load movements on local residents. Wynns prepared a Transport Assessment as part of the planning application for the development.

The project involved:

• Assessment of abnormal load routes to site and possibilities for moving loads within the site (which was split by the Stainforth and Keadby Canal).

• Making recommendations as to local and remote highway modification and structural improvements and land uptake that would be required to enable the delivery of abnormal loads to the site.

• Considering the feasibility of water access from the river Trent in order to minimise the impact of moving abnormal loads to the site by road and comply with Department for Transport/Highways Agency policy on the movement of abnormal loads by water.

• Preparation of a detailed Transport Assessment to be submitted to Nottinghamshire County Council in respect to the planning application.
